Ani DiFranco

Twenty years ago Ani DiFranco released her first album. Since then, she has established herself as one of the most influential and inspirational artists of her generation. Ani bucked the major label system in the early-‘90s, opting to release her music on her own terms and her DYI spirit has become a guiding light to both artists just starting out and seasoned professionals alike. DiFranco wears many hats including singer/songwriter/guitarist/producer and now venue owner, renovating an 18th century church in her hometown of Buffalo, NY into a multi-cultural community-based facility. In 2006, DiFranco received the “Woman of Courage Award” at the National Organization for Women (NOW) Conference and Young Feminist Summit. Her empowering spirit is evident through her songs that tackle barbed political and sexual issues with uncommon insight and compassion. She continues to hold fast to her values and commitments to many humanitarian, political and personal issues in her musical works and with her philanthropy through her Righteous Babe Foundation.
